Thurs 2nd October 08

Met Suzie our McMillan Nurse yesterday, She has explained a few things to us and also expressed that Jon and I need to talk about some difficult things which I dont think either of us are ready to do... but then again are u ever ready? It's great to know that the help is out there.

I also joined the Cancerbackup website yesterday they have some very helpful forums and last night I found they have a chat room. It was like a weight had lifted off my shoulders being able to type to other sufferers and carers like myself. I realize now Im not alone.

Friends and family have been fantastic but there are some questions only people who have been through it can answer. There were 8 people in the chat room yesterday, they made me feel very welcome and although I started out the conversation crying at my pc they had me laughing and looking forward to logging on to catch them and other new friends soon.

keep safe everyone

the website I was speaking about can be found at

Rough day - 30th September 2008

Today our world really has shattered!

Jons been getting symptoms back over the past few weeks, we tried to ignore them but we both knew what was around the corner.

Jons Cancer has returned and we spent this morning at hospital visiting the consultant.

Jon has been told there isnt anymore treatment that can be done as he already has had the maximum dosage of both Chemo and Radiotherapy. At the minute were feeling really numb but Jons coping fantastically.

We have told the boys that he doesnt have to go to hospital anymore and cant be made better. We have left it at that, they dont need to know too much yet.

I know its hard to know what to say to Jon or myself but just knowing family and friends are there and being as normal as possible around us both would help us get through this time.

In return.. I said that Jon's a firefighter and the usual jokes went round the table about hoses etc..

Ladies Day and Boyzone

Yesterday I had a late birthday treat from Jon, a day at Newbury Races in Berkshire, it was Ladies Day and Party in the paddock was Boyzone in concert.

Jon didnt want to be standing around all day, he is getting back to his old self but it would have been too much for him so rather than go alone I talked me mate Suzie into coming along too..

Never again! I spent £34 and came home with £42
Suzie spent £34 and came home with £84 (5 wins in a row!)

Nah joking aside we had a wonderful day and even though neither of us were great Boyzone fans... we did enjoy the concert and are now converted..

Jon and Chris were looking after the kids for the day and took them off to the cinema, when we all met up again at home Suzie and I were serenading them all with Boyzone classics (dont think we did them justice though).

All in all we had a fantastic day!

Pictures to be added soon.

Summer Holiday 2008

Well this year we went visiting relatives up north with me mum and dad, it was a lovely relaxing break away, shame the weather didnt match the fun of the holiday, the kids did get to spend time on the beach at scarborough one afternoon, they also found the delights of crabbing over the harbour side!

We would like to thank my cousins Sandra and Graham for putting us all up in their Bed and Breakfast, the kids are still trying to convince me to cook them full breakfasts everyday, alas they are back to toast n butter or cereal.. I am so mean !

I also want to thank Steph and Nigel,Pauline and Andy for letting us invade your houses and giving us lovely meals.

I will add some photos to this blog once they are on the pc

Best wishes to Uncle John on his recovery and love to Auntie Rita too.

Race for Life (6th July 2008)

Well it might have been pouring with rain but Mum, Anne and myself had a great time, we raised £600 between us doing the Race for Life 5k walk, people are still sponsoring us after the event too.

Thought I would share a few photos.. am still waiting for the ones from the newspaper but I got some from Marathon photos this week.

Firstly my race number and my back message...

Doing the warm up with our umbrellas

Me playing shy to the camera and doing the royal wave!

Us running across the finishing line , see I did Run a tiny bit!

We did an interview with our local paper and they caught a brilliant picture of us with our medals, it was printed in the paper.

We will be doing it all again next year... and if the weather is a bit kinder to us we will try the 10k route.
